Tina Brown has named Tunku Varadarajan, national affairs correspondent at the Daily Beast, as Newsweek's editor of international edition.
In a memo sent to employees of the newly-formed joint venture, its editor-in-chief said the veteran of Forbes, the Wall Street Journal and the Times of London has been promoted from the Daily Beast to become editor of Newsweek's international edition.
Newsweek international editor Fareed Zakaria had left the magazine shortly after the Washington Post sold Newsweek to stereo tycoon Sidney Harman.
Varadarajan's previous stints involved working as executive editor of opinion at Forbes and as assistant managing editor at the Wall Street Journal.
Prior to that, he was the bureau chief of New York and Madrid at the Times of London.
