Publisher Hearst has unveiled the December showcase issue of The Oprah Magazine on the iPad, which is now available on the Apple app store.
The theme of the magazine's December issue is "Miracles", and the iPad app enhancements include videos, sharing features, and a bookstore - the latter lets people read samples and buy e-books.
The Oprah Magazine app includes videos of Oprah, an extensive "Holiday Gift Guide", and an entry for the "12-Day Holiday Give-O-Way" sweepstakes.
Subscribers can also read the first chapter of each of Oprah's Top 10 Books of the Year and then purchase them through amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com.
Hearst claims that the Oprah app features limited amount of advertising and only Disney and Lexus are the inaugural advertisers. Disney also features a video for the brand's "Let the Memories Begin" campaign.
"I love the written word, and I love the iPad - to me, it's another way to experience the intimacy of this magazine and it's part of the future of the business," said Oprah Winfrey. "It's a new way to connect with our readers, who are on a path of becoming their best selves."
The app has been conceived and designed in-house by the magazine's editorial and design teams and built by ScrollMotion.
