Radio Times celebrates Coronation Street's 50th anniversary

Female stars to appear on multiple covers

BBC Magazines is publishing a special issue of the Radio Times to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Britain's longest running soap, 'Coronation Street', with 12 different covers featuring both old and new cast members.

The issue, on sale from 27 November, has been covered by the soap's leading female characters throughout the years, including Elsie Tanner (Pat Phoenix), Ena Sharples (Violet Carson), Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander) and Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly).

Some of the newer members of the cast such as Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear), Betty Williams (Betty Driver), Raquelle Watts (Sarah Lancashire), Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) also feature on the covers.

"Radio Times has a rich history of doing multiple covers and we tend to do them when there is an event happening which will spark the public imagination," publishing director Kathy Day said.

The Coronation Street tribute issue also features an interview with the drama's creator Tony Warren and an exclusive 'Secret Diary of Gail' feature that charts the history of the Street, penned by show scriptwriter Jonathan Harvey.
