Newsweek’s depiction of Obama as a Hindu god upsets Indian-Americans

Controversial cover depicts President as Lord Shiva with a headline of "God od All Things"

A controversial cover of Newsweek magazine has irked some Indian Americans and has led to a call for a ban of the magazine from a Malaysian Hindu organisation.

The cover depicts US President Barack Obama as the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.
Obama, fresh off a visit to India, is shown with multiple arms, juggling issues from his administration as he balances on one leg.

The headline reads: "God of All Things" with a subtitle, "Why the Modern Presidency May be too Much for One Person to Handle."

Several Hindu-American organisations have urged Newsweek to publish a disclaimer about the cover on its website and include a proper explanation of the Hindu gods with the next issue.

A Malaysian Hindu organisation even went to the extent of demanding an apology from the magazine "for their insensitivity in using the image of a highly revered Hindu deity in such an incredulous manner."
