Shape editor apologises for putting Rimes on cover
Leanne Rimes cover story attracted complaints due to admission of infidelity.
Editor-in-chief of fitness magazine Shape, Valerie Latona apologised to readers in an email for featuring singer Leann Rimes in this month's issue.
Latona in her email which was obtained by TooFab.com wrote that the decision to put Rimes on the cover and carry a controversial interview - in which the artist opened up about her infidelity in her marriage - was a "terrible mistake."
Several complaints from readers and media interest followed Shape's cover story on the artist, who separated from her spouse Dean Sheremet last year, after an affair with married actor Eddie Cibrian.
"Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal, but to show how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment," wrote Latona. She added, "It did not come across that way... and for that I'm terribly sorry."
