Michael Wolff to lead Adweek's magazines
New editorial direcor to take control over the trade magazines Adweek, Brandweek and Mediaweek.
Award-winning journalist Michael Wolff has been named editorial director of AdweekMedia, the group of trade magazines which includes Adweek, Brandweek and Mediaweek.
Wolff, the winner of two National Magazine Awards, has been a columnist for Vanity Fair and New York magazine, and recently founded the online news aggregator Newser.
A controversial figure in the media industry, Wolff is known for his aggressive sensibility. He authored a biography of Rupert Murdoch in 2008: 'The Man Who Owns the News', antagonising the media mogul.
Wolff's hiring is understood to mark another move by Adweek's owner, e5 Global Media, towards a substantially altered editorial direction. "He's controversial. Which is good. If you want to make an omelet you have to break some eggs," e5 chief Richard Beckman commented on the appointment, the New York Times reports.
Earlier this year, the company hired Janice Min, the former editor of US Weekly, to head the transformation its trade paper, The Hollywood Reporter, into a weekly large-format glossy magazine.
