Billingsley appointed BBC Magazines' mobile devices publisher

Billingsley to oversee strategy for bringing magazine brands to mobile devices.

The BBC on Friday announced that its magazine division has appointed Rebekah Billingsley as mobile devices publisher.

Billingsley, the deputy digital director of Hachette Filipacchi UK, will now oversee strategies for taking BBC's magazine brands onto mobile devices.

BBC Magazines is run by the broadcaster's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, and publishes major titles such as Radio Times, Lonely Planet and Top gear.

Working with the magazine's print and digital teams, Billingsley will report jointly to BBC Magazines' deputy managing director, Nicholas Brett, and to Claude London, director of global web properties at BBC Worldwide.

BBC Magazines launched digital versions of fifteen of its titles following a deal last month with virtual magazine store Zinio. It has also launched apps on portable devices for its market-leading magazines, including Good Food's Quick Recipes app.

BBC Worldwide in September announced that the magazine business, valued at about £180m, has been put up for partial sale.
