Active Interest Media in deal to acquire Skram Media

Media group will take over publisher of climbing and mountaineering magazines.

Active Interest Media (AIM) has entered a deal to take over Skram Media, which publishes climbing enthusiast publications such as Urban Climber, Mountain Gazette and the Climbing magazine.

According to a report by the Folio: magazine, AIM, the publishers of Backpacker and Yoga magazines, will assign the new titles to its Outdoor Group.

The deal will permit AIM to manage Skram's operations immediately, with an agreement to take over the company in three years if certain performance targets are achieved.

Skram co-owner Mark Crowther will continue as publisher of the climbing magazines.

Dougald MacDonald has been hired as editorial director of the climbing titles and editor-in-chief of Climbing.

Outdoor Group's general manager Jon Dorn said they hope to see considerable savings on production contracts following the deal, which will enable them to increase staff intake.

AIM has declined to provide details of the eventual price it must pay for Skram.
