The US publisher Conde Nast is launching its first UK iPhone city guide app for Rome, New York, Barcelona and Paris, the MarketingWeek reported Thursday. The UK travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller will promote the app in its July issue.
The £5.99 app provides information on sightseeing and accommodation choices available in these cities. It will also offer audio-guided walks, which involve a recorded spoken commentary giving background information, facts and context of the places being viewed. The audio service will be launched later this month.
The city-guide app also features recommendations and quarterly updates from celebrities such as the television presenter Alain de Botton and English fashion designers Anya Hindmarch and Paul Smith.
The US publisher said it plans to introduce advertiser-funded apps for its men's magazine GQ later this year. It will also experiment with both advertiser-funded free apps and paid-for models before looking at iPhone and iPad apps for its fashion publications such as Vogue and Glamour, it added.
