US mag criticised for breastfeeding tips

Apology issued for suggestion that mothers should not breastfeed in public places.

The US home décor magazine Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) was forced to apologise for an article that suggested that mothers should not breastfeed their children in public places such as restaurants.

The article written by Heather Wagner, published in a BHG blog post, listed Commandments for mothers while eating out with young children. One of them is: "Thou shalt not breastfeed at the table".

The other commandments included keeping children in their seats, controlling their screaming and leaving loud toys at home.

Wagner has apologised on Facebook, saying that the article supported breastfeeding mothers who wanted to include their children in their public lives.
