Playboy magazine centrefold now in 3-D

Hugh Hefner first tried a 3-D issue in the 1950s, but gave up on the idea as it was too expensive.

The Playboy magazine is printing a 3-D centrefold for the first time. The June issue of the US adult magazine, out on Friday, will come with a pair of 3-D glasses to view the page.

The centrefold, titled "Playmate of the Year", features American model Hope Dworaczyk. Through the glasses, it looks as though Dworaczyk is handing a wine glass to the reader.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said he hopes to cash in on the new 3-D fad popularised by films such as Avatar.

He told the Associated Press he had tried the 3-D issue switch way back in the 1950s, but abandoned the idea after realising how expensive it would be.
