Thomson Reuters has reportedly expressed interest in buying Newsweek, the magazine owned by The Washington Post Company that was put up for sale last week.
Thomson wants to buy the loss-making weekly as the news agency's nearest competitor Bloomberg acquired a similar magazine - BusinessWeek - last year. It had also shown interest in buying BusinessWeek but it got eventually got bought by its rival.
Newsweek's editor Jon Meacham has said that he is trying to get an investor group to buy the publication.
Allbritton Communications, which owns the political newspaper Politico, is also said to be keen on acquiring the US news magazine.
