CBS asks 48HR magazine to change name

The magazine's title resembles to a CBS show.

The US television network CBS has issued the newly-launched 48HR magazine a cease-and-desist letter because its title sounds like the channel's news television show "48 Hours".

On 11 May, Lauren Marcello, the assistant general counsel at CBS, warned the magazine that the publication's use of the title was unlawful and constituted trademark infringement.

Founding editor of 48HR, Matthew Honan, said the magazine was not aware of any television show with that name and that changing it would affect the publication's central vision.

CBS general counsel Louis Briskman said the letter was written to begin negotiations between the two parties.
