The mother of four and 35-year-old charity worker described herself as a mother who was forever learning new lessons about being a good parent. Patience, she said, was the most important virtue for a parent.

High-profile mothers including newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, Emmerdale actress Linda Lusardi and actors Patsy Palmer, Jo Joyner, Jessie Wallace and Lucy Benjamin competed with Ramsay for the award.

Author of three best seller cookbooks, Ramsay said about her children, "It is important to stay close to them, but that gets tricky when they get older and hey get secretive and into their teenage years... but just being there, being their friend."
