Jude Law wins Empire award

Film magazine Empire has given Jude Law the Empire Hero Award, as his film wins Best Thriller.

Law played Dr Watson in the detective movie Sherlock Holmes, which was awarded Best Thriller at the 2010 Jameson Empire Awards, held at London on Sunday.

Other winners were Star Trek (best science fiction/fantasy), Christoph Waltz (best actor for performance in Inglorious Basterds), Zoe Saldana (best actress for Avatar) and James Cameron (best director for Avatar). Cameron's movie also won the best film award.

Film and television actor Ray Winstone received the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Film. The Empire Inspiration Award went to Andy Serkis, known for his role of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The Academy Award winner Sir Ian McKellan received the Empire Icon Award.
