African-American women magazine Essence may close down

US magazine for African-American women aged 18 to 49 might close, according to reports.

On Thursday, the magazine said in a press release that its Beauty and Cover Director Mikki Taylor has retired after serving the publication for 30 years.

A major assistant and the entire fashion team of the magazine are also understood to be not reporting to work. The magazine terminated several employees in November and there are only about six staffers currently.

Other Afro-American magazines such as King Mag and Vibe are performing badly too.
