The London-based English weekly news and international affairs publication was up from number 58 to 25 over the year. The Guardian, its sister Sunday title the Observer and the Telegraph are the only other representatives of the UK national press in the poll.
The survey started off with a list of 1,200 brands. Five hundred brands were later shortlisted by a panel of 25 branding and marketing experts.
The Superbrands organisation is an independent arbiter on branding.
