Grasping the nettle

John Hopkins, General Practitioner Darlington
Wednesday 20th February 2002
Parents of this message:
Letting doctors run their own services
Primary Care Trusts give GPs an opportunity to take more control of how care is delivered. We need to grasp that nettle. In exchange doctors need two things.

Firstly, a reduction in the number of centrally imposed directives.

Secondly, a mature debate with politicians and the public about what the NHS should and should not be expected to provide.
