From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: A cruel Yule

So, pretty good week. Two massive areas of concern for us. One: "I Saved the World"-gate. Two: the possibility of a total economic collapse.

Obviously at the Unit we feel we need to focus strongly on the slip of the tongue. Because while a total national economic collapse will obviously be damaging, the narrative of your involvement in the crisis is what we can viably have an effect on.

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: Beyond triangulation

So, pretty good week. One of those weeks that definitely feels pretty good. Just hope it isn't the sort of week that in subsequent years we will see in documentaries with sombre soundtracks and graphics which read "seeds of the collapse" or "the Budget that broke the nation".

One charge that is being repeated by topical comedians and will probably finally penetrate the Tory imagination is that you are [...]

So, pretty good week. After months of finding it hard to pick up the papers it's become a pleasure again: Osborne on the rack; Cameron shitting it or absent; polling almost no longer very depressing; economy (sadly, obviously) tanking; pirates (!) for light relief. Overall, avoiding the many pages of dead and injured baby news, comment and graphics, it's been a bumper good-time news-media fun-week!

Off this, feels like [...]

So, pretty good week. Just to update you - the Obama "private" number we've got definitely doesn't work. We left it ringing for three-quarters of an hour on Wednesday and eventually an irascible gentleman answered claiming we had got through to the staffroom of a Dunkin' Donuts in Utah. Are you sure this is the number he gave you? We could get another number from the Foreign Office, but you [...]

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: Capital spending projects

So, pretty good week. Feels like things are returning to a more familiar rhythm again after the period of us riding high with our dreams of a mere nine-point poll deficit. Obviously we're not going to be able to maintain or possibly even achieve that kind of figure. It's just not realistic. But hopefully we can peg things back so we only end up 13 to 15 points behind the [...]

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: Omnipotence

So, I think you will agree with us when we say, pretty fucking good week. Leadership secured. UK's integrity restored. Nationalists dished. Tories irrelevant-ised. Thatcherism destroyed. Social Democracy enshrined. Greed ended. Blair dwarfed. Nobel Laureateship banked. Legacy ensured. Capitalism rescued. Socialism reborn. World remade. And that's all according to Daily Telegraph editorials. Elsewhere the tone is less carping! The atmosphere here as you know has been transformed.

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: Requests for GB Moneyfacts

So, a pretty good week. Really feels like there is a new atmosphere. All is flux - the world is crumbling. Tories on the back foot. Happy days are here again.

Obviously, the biggest piece of political weather-making has been the "Mandelson masterstroke" gambit. We can only apologise, when Ed sent the initial email canvassing opinions, for sending one back entitled: "Hell, Yeah! And Sarah Palin for Prince William's [...]

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: The world remade

So, pretty good week. I mean, a really pretty great week! Just when things were looking bleak . . . out of the gloom has ridden a really, really terrible financial crisis. And this week, as things have got worse and worse, things have been getting better and better. The air feels different. We are nearly only 10 points behind in the polls!

It's a double positive whammy. Dreadful news [...]

So, pretty good week. Think we can ignore the mini-bounce we got from what was definitely the speech of your life. What we need to focus on is the massive opportunities afforded us by the ongoing economic crisis.

Think for possibly too long we have been focusing on what we can change about you to make people like you. By now, however, it has become pretty much certain that [...]

From: The Unit
To: GB
Subject: Khmer Rouge v Pot Noodle

So, pretty good week. Great that you're keeping your head down. Very much feels almost spooky how absent you are from the national debate concerning your future. Think this is a good choice. It is a choice, isn't it?

Also great that you're spending so much time sweating over the "Speech of your life". Think we need obviously to prepare a fallback line in case it doesn't turn out [...]
