Policing

How could you make policing better in London?

Because London’s districts are so various a ‘one size fits all’ policing policy can never be appropriate, and the Metropolitan Police need to listen to local communities so they can deliver a level of policing tailor-made to crime levels and the situations in each local area.
The police already adapt their operations to different localities. Intelligence led policing, targeted operations and partnership with communities are the way forward and the Met are doing just this.
My strategy for policing is community-based and addresses safety and liberty. There needs to be effective Safer Neighbourhoods Panels, full independent enquiries into deaths in custody and police shooting of civilians, and an end to arbitrary Stop and Search. We need a more diverse police force.
The Metropolitan Police do an amazing job in very difficult circumstances but they need more help and I am committed to giving them the resources they need.
