Immigration

Is immigration causing problems in London?

London's great diversity of people and culture should be celebrated. There needs to be national funding for boroughs to meet the needs of asylum seekers as well as support for ethnic minority projects and initiatives which strengthen local economies.
London is a city whose prosperity and international standing is built on welcoming migrants: throughout history communities have arrived here, settled down and prospered and brought new ideas and skills to our city.
We need to listen to local communities and work with Boroughs so real problems are addressed in cooperation with all those involved rather than starting from a position of hostility and prejudice.
While immigration has brought innumerable benefits to London and made it a truly cosmopolitan city, I will lobby as Mayor to increase central Government funding for Boroughs that currently receive below the rate of inflation and are facing increasing populations.
