What can be done to prevent youth crime?

I will make tackling knife and gun crime a policing priority, provide funding for hand-held knife scanners and I will direct the LDA to fund youth community groups to tackle the drivers of gang culture.
We need to devote more resources to prevent young people becoming involved in gangs and violence and diverting those who are involved or on the fringes away from crime.
The private sector has a better grasp of what young people want for sport, music and leisure, so I will seek their involvement and talk to London’s businesses about sponsoring new facilities where young Londoners could enjoy themselves and get support on how to develop their life skills.
We need to reverse the scandalous decline in youth services over the past two decades. We need a London-wide Youth Investment Fund to deliver training, leisure and support projects for young people.
