Congestion

Should the new emissions charge be implemented?

The best way of reducing emissions is to review traffic light phasing and co-ordinate roadworks as it is stationary queues of traffic that generate the worst pollution emissions.
We should maintain the new higher congestion charge for the most polluting vehicles. In the longer term we should develop a more sophisticated road pricing system to target the most congested streets.
The £25 a day emissions charge for gas-guzzling vehicles like some 4x4s, high-powered sports cars and luxury executive cars is necessary to cut greenhouse gas emissions
Transport for London has admitted that the emissions charge will do nothing for congestion and almost nothing for air quality or emissions. It is just another tax and it should be scraped.
