The Environment

What more should London be doing to help the environment?

All major new developments must be designed to be self-sustaining in energy, waste, and water consumption, with groups of flats, schools, and Tube stations using Combined Heat and Power generation schemes with power surpluses sold to the National Grid.
London has the lowest rate of recycling in Britain and this needs to change. We should be reducing car use and replacing light bulbs with energy efficient ones. We should also be protecting and enhancing our green spaces and planting more trees in urban settings.
There should be free insulation for every home that needs it and solar electricity on 100,000 roofs in London by 2015. We should develop a programme to cut buildings' emissions and train Londoners to maintain green energy systems. We need new sustainable waste technology.
We should implement the £25 a day emissions charge on gas-guzzling cars in the congestion zone.
