Housing

What should be done to help provide housing for low income families?

We should set a rule that half of all newly built homes must be ones that are affordable to people on low incomes, to buy or to rent.
We need to support retention of council housing, change planning rules to ensure at least 60% of all new housing is affordable, and take action to bring empty buildings back into use.
Boroughs and housing associations need help to provide more rented accommodation by renovating the 83,000 empty properties, releasing unused public sector land for new build, and helping older people downsize.
We should develop more family-sized homes with gardens, use new ideas to deliver more affordable homes, bring empty homes back into use and work with the boroughs to cut down the housing waiting lists.
