EDF Energy will cut its gas bills by 5 per cent in February.

EDF Energy plan to cut their gas bills by 5 per cent from February, making it the first of the "big six" to lower gas prices. The "big six" are EDF, British Gas, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power Business and Scottish & Southern. These are also expected to announce prince cuts in the coming months.

EDF put up its prices in November of last year, 15.4 per cent and 4.5 per cent in gas and electricity respectively. British Gas raised its gas prices in August 2011 by 18 per cent and electricity prices by 16 per cent.

According to a company spokesman, EDF electricity prices will not come down next month as customers had already been protected against the full rise in wholesale electricity prices in November.
