Market capitalisation: $69 billion
Sinopec was the first Chinese company to make the Fortune 500, having already topped its top 500 Chinese Enterprises list in 2007.
Yet another state-owned Chinese giant, Sinopec is the country's second largest oil producer behind market leading Petrochina.
Sinopec has shown its ambition by announcing that it would spend $4.65 billion to buy up ConocoPhillips stake in a huge oil project in the sands of northern Canada. The venture will be one of the largest ever by a Chinese company in North America.
