UK unemployment falls for the first time since last autumn

The figures of unemployment fell by 17,000 to reach 2.48 million, according to the Office for Nation

The unemployment rate dropped slightly at the end of February to 2.48 million, according to the Office for National Statistics. This means that the rate now stands at 7.8 per cent of the active population.

These figures also reveal that 3,.000 men found a new occupation while 14,000 lost their livelihoods.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment stands at 20 per cent. 963,000 persons aged 16 to 24 remain jobless.

The numbers jobseeker allowance claimers rose by 700 in March, reaching 1.45 million, the ONS stated, adding that total pay rose by 2 per cent.
