3. China Mobile | Top 10 BRIC companies
The world's largest telecoms company.
By Staff blogger Published 06 July 2010
Market capitalisation: $201.7 billion
With more than half a billion customers, China Mobile is the world's largest telecommunications group. The company also boasts the largest network of any mobile phone company. According to the company's website it now offers mobile coverage to over 97% of the Chinese population.
Like Petrochina, ICBC et al, China Mobile is state owned and has largely restricted itself to the domestic market. To date its only venture abroad has been to Pakistan, where it purchased the PakTel brand in 2007.
Further good news for the company came this week with the announcement that it was China's most valuable brand. A survey by Interbrand found China Mobile's brand value to be over $30 billion, more than double its nearest rival, China Life Insurance.
