iPad 2 hype begins early

Consumers camp outside London's Apple stores for up to 33 hours.

Apple's iPad 2 is to go on sale today at 5pm, and demand is expected to significantly outstrip supply, indicated by the growing queues outside London's two Apple stores.

In a survey by of 438 iPad owners it was discovered that at least 1 in 4 planned to upgrade their tablet. Further sales will be attracted by the cut in price, from £429 for the iPad, to £399 for the iPad 2.

The new version features front and back cameras, and a faster processor.

In the US, between 500 000 and 1m iPad 2s were sold on the weekend of release.
