Flipboard, the iPad app which blends news with the users' social network updates and converts it into a magazine style layout, has partnered with media companies to display digital stories as well.
The company has partnered with eight media companies including ABC News, All Things D, Bon Appetite, Lonely Planet and the San Francisco Chronicle to create a template for news outlets that automatically formats digital content into a customised display.
The template reportedly allows the content to load faster as it does not go through a web browser. It also allows publishers to include full-page, interactive advertisements.
Flipboard chief executive officer Mike McCue said the new format makes it easier for publishers to get on the iPad without having to build their own apps.
Flipboard launched the new format on Thursday.
