The Yahoo Local Beta, launched in 30 US neighbourhoods, will focus on California, Michigan, and New York states while supporting areas such as San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Brooklyn. It also covers Michigan areas such as Birmingham, Ferndale and Royal Oak as well.
Yahoo said that it will experiment with the concept in more markets in the coming weeks.
Announcing the launch, Local vice-president Matt Idema wrote in a blog post. "With rich hyper-local content, this new product provides people a truly personalised experience across desktop and mobile (currently available via the mobile web on iPhone and Android), enabling them to discover and contribute to the best local news, deals, and events nearby, all in one place."
The new site has three categories under news, deals and activities.
The site takes content from local publishers and community reporters. The search company also said that it would also allow feed from other publishers as well on its Local site.
