Britain's Royal Family now on Facebook

Britain's Royal Family set up its own page on Facebook on Sunday.

The British Royal Family page in the social networking site features pictures, videos, news and speeches from Queen Elizabeth II and heir to the throne Prince Charles and his two sons Princes William and Harry, among others.

Although it is not a personal profile page, users can show that they "like" the page and can receive updates on their news feed, the royal family's official residence Buckingham Palace stated this weekend.

However, Facebook users will not be able to "poke" the queen, become her Facebook friend or post comments on her status updates.

The Queen, known to be new media savvy, uses a BlackBerry and an iPod.

Buckingham Palace set up a channel for Britain's Royal Family on YouTube in 2007 and signed up for microblogging site Twitter in 2009. The family also has its own photo stream on photo-sharing site Flickr.
