One in three US kids want iPad as Christmas gift

Only 11 per cent want an e-reader

Nearly one in every three US kids aged between 6 and 12 have asked for an Apple iPad as a Christmas gift this year, according to a recent survey from metrics firm Nielsen released on Monday.

About 31 per cent of US children between ages 6 and 12 preferred the Apple tablet computer to other electronic devices in the next six months. About 29 per cent of the kids asked for a computer and 29 per cent wanted Apple's portable media player iPod Touch.

Only 11 per cent said they most wanted an e-reader.

Those over the age of 18 asked for a computer (20 per cent) over the next six months, followed by a TV (19 per cent), smartphone (19 per cent) and iPad (18 per cent). E-readers prove slightly more popular (15 per cent) among an older crowd.

The study conducted in October includes 17 popular electronic devices such as TVs, game consoles and mobile phones currently available in the market.
