Poor sales forces Google TV to announce discounts
Prices of Google TV's slashed by up to $200
By Staff blogger Published 29 November 2010
Google TV is struggling to meet sales targets and the sluggish sales have forced US retail stores such as Best Buy and Sony Style to announce $100 discounts barely a few weeks after it was released, media reports speculated on Sunday.
US networks blocking their content from playing on the devices is also reportedly a reason for its poor sales.
Sony has now announced that it has dropped the price of its Google TV devices by up to $200 over the Black Friday holiday weekend in the US.
Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
The 46-inch, Google TV-enabled Sony TV's cost will be less by nearly $200 for the current weekend. The 40-inch set is available for $898, and the Blu-ray player with Google TV is $299 -- both a $100 discount.
