BBC hires Ralph Rivera as new digital media director

Current Major League Gaming president to take on new role on 8th November.

The BBC on Thursday announced that it has appointed Ralph Rivera as director of digital media for future media and technology.

He is currently president of Major League Gaming in New York.

Prior to heading Major League Gaming, Rivera was the head of AOL's games. He also launched Games.com and supervised the expansion of the company's online presence.

Rivera will take over his new role on 8 November and will report to Erik Huggers, director of BBC future media and technology.

Rivera will be responsible for all the digital media products across computer, gaming and mobile devices at the corporation.

"The BBC is held in incredibly high regard in the US. There is no other organisation in the world that has the sheer quality of content, heritage in engineering and will to harness innovation for the benefit of the wider public," he said.

"The BBC iPlayer has already transformed TV on the web, but that's just a hint of what's possible. I can't wait to get started," he added.
