Scammers are duping Facebook users with a fake "dislike" button that infects machines with malicious software, warned Sophos, a developer and vendor of security software and hardware, on Monday.
There is actually no "dislike" version of the "like" icon that members of the social networking website often use to endorse online comments, stories, photographs, or other content shared with friends.
Hackers are reportedly luring the network's users to install an application disguised as a "dislike" button. Once users click the button, it sends a message to the Facebook user's contacts saying "now I can dislike all of your dumb posts."
Once granted permission to access a Facebook user's profile, the application accesses spam from the account and proliferates itself by inviting the person's friends to get the button, said Sophos.
