Consumer technology company Apple is set to unveil its TV offering from September.

Bloomberg reports that Apple will introduce the new products along with a new iTunes rental service for TV programmes. The company is likely to unveil the updated version of the TV receiver box and also announce details of the new TV offerings in San Francisco on 7 September.

The new service will allow US users to rent programmes for as little as 99 cents. It is understood that the company is in talks with several US television networks about its proposals.

The new offerings are expected to help Apple take on rivals such as Hulu, which allows US viewers to watch certain programmes for free with advertisements.

It is understood that Rupert Murdoch's Fox TV network is interested in striking a deal with Apple TV, but other networks including CBS and NBC are less keen as the programmes would appear without ads.

Apple users can also stream Apple TV programmes through their iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
