YouTube to offer 3D content on PlayStation 3

Sony's game console will be updated soon to support 3D video streams.

YouTube will offer 3D video content on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) in the next 12 months, Sony studio director Mick Hocking told a media gathering in London on Tuesday.

While talking about the Sony PS3, Hocking said an update would enable the game console to support 3D YouTube streams.

PS3 is the third home video game console produced by Sony and the successor to the PlayStation 2. It uses the high-definition Blu-ray Disc format as its primary storage medium.

To watch the 3D content on YouTube, users will need an HDMI 1.4 compatible video card and television or computer operating system that can display the 3D content.

"As you start taking 3D pictures of your family or 3D camcorder movies, you can play those back on PS3 too," added Hocking.
