Google in talks with social games developers
Search engine courting developers with ideas of social network to rival Facebook
By New Statesman Published 29 July 2010
Google is reportedly talking with social games developers such as Playdom, Playfish and Zynga in an attempt to build a social networking business to compete with Facebook.
Zynga is the maker of popular games such as FarmVille and Mafia Wars, which are on Facebook currently.
However, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Google's chief executive Eric Schmidt did not confirm the development. Any Google service would be different from Facebook, he said, adding that "The world doesn't need a copy of the same thing."
Talking about Google's partnership with Zynga, Schmidt said the company hasn't announced it, but is likely to strike a partnership with Zynga in the future.
The company's tie-up with Zynga was reported earlier by TechCrunch.
