More than half US web users visited newspaper sites in May

New York Times' website is the newspaper site most visited by US readers.

About 123 million Americans, or roughly 57 per cent of total internet users in the US, have visited newspaper websites in May, according to the latest report by internet research and analysis firm comScore.

The New York Times ranked as the top online newspaper, with more than 32 million visitors viewing 719 million pages of content last month, the report said.

The Tribune Newspapers with 24.8 million visitors, Advance Internet with 18.1 million visitors and USA Today with 16.8 million visitors, ranked high on the list of online readership figures.

Even as print circulation declines, Americans are actually consuming "as much news as ever", across more media, said Jeff Hackett, comScore's senior vice-president.
