Digital music distributor Believe sets shop in UK

Believe Digital also has offices in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal and the US.

The European music distributor Believe Digital has opened an office in the UK, appointing former Libertines manger Stephen King as managing director, it has been reported.

Believe distributes artists and labels including Ravi Shankar, Randy Crawford, Aztec Music and Unique Records. It has offices in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal and the US.

The distributor also provides online tools such as music players and social networking widgets to artists to enhance their profiles. It teamed up with online music service Spotify in February this year to offer access to its independent European labels.

Believe says it looks to tap into the "new marketplace" produced by the increased interaction between artists, music labels, fans and online music retailers.

Believe Digital was founded in 2004 by former Vivendi Universal executive Denis Ladegaillerie.
