Utah's Attorney General announces execution on Twitter

Mark Shurtleff used the microblogging site to announce the execution of murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner.

The attorney general of Utah, Mark Shurtleff, used his Twitter account to announce the news of the execution of Ronnie Lee Gardner on Friday.
Gardner was convicted in the murder of Michael Burdell in 1985.

"I just gave the go ahead to Corrections Director to proceed with Gardener's execution. May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims,"
Shurtleff wrote on the microblogging site, where he has about 7,000 followers.

"A solemn day. Barring a stay by Sup Ct, & with my final nod, Utah will use most extreme power & execute a killer. Mourn his victims. Justice," he tweeted on Thursday.

Garner, who asked to be executed by firing squad, was killed in Draper on Friday noon.
