Metacafe launches dedicated movie site

Site will not offer actual movies.

The video-sharing website Metacafe is launching Metacafe Movies, a web portal dedicated to movies.

The new site does not offer actual movies but delivers original programming, behind-the-scenes clips, short films, restricted trailers and a 3D showcase. It will also feature news and content about movies under production.

Metacafe chief executive Erick Hachenburg said the site offers expanded movie content in a "channel" of its own. Besides movie trailers, it features interviews with actors and crew and their filmographies.

Metacafe Movies will also integrate social media networks for users to share and watch videos.

The company says its movies-related advertising revenues have gone up more than 70 per cent over the last year, and hopes the new site will help further that trend.
