The software will bring web search, apps and video entertainment to the television and allow users to access it through the internet. It is expected to come preloaded with Internet-ready televisions, game consoles, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.

Analysts however say there is a strong chance that Google's television software may fail to click like its other projects such as Wave. The company, meanwhile, is considering partnerships with companies such as Intel, Sony and Logitech to popularise the product.

Sources in Google say a limited test of the television search service has already been started with Dish Network Corp.
