Barnes & Noble launches self-publishing platform

The published works will be available to read on mobile and eBook devices.

The US book retailer Barnes & Noble is launching a new self-publishing platform for publishers and self-publishing writers this summer.

The service, called PubIt, consists of three steps: uploading content, conversion to the ePub format and display of the content with other digital content at and its eBookstore. The retailer's customers will be able to read the published works on mobile and eBook devices.

Barnes & Noble has not announced any pricing for the service, saying the details of its "competitive royalty model and compensation process" will be available in the next few weeks.

It also assured users that its digital rights management technology will protect the intellectual property of the content owners.
