US newspapers drew record traffic to their websites in the first quarter of 2010, according to Nielsen Online figures released by the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) on Thursday. The fourth quarter figure for 2009 was 72 million said the NAA, which represents 2,000 newspapers in the US and Canada. Newspaper website users generated over 3.2 billion page views during the first quarter and spent over 2.3 billion minutes browsing the sites.
Declining print advertising revenue, falling circulation and readers shifting to free online news, have all impacted US newspapers negatively in recent months.
