The company said the move will benefit its customers by making more celebrity content available.
Getty Images' chief executive and co-founder Jonathan Klein said: "Celebrity and entertainment content is a growing and vital part of the editorial imagery industry and this acquisition positions us to meet and exceed the demand for nearly instantaneous material."
He added that the acquisition would offer Getty Images more coverage capabilities for events and portraiture and will expand its entertainment and celebrity imagery segment.
The company intends to maintain Rex Features' brand and continue to generate new imagery for their respective celebrity and entertainment collections.
Financial terms of the deal have not been revealed.
