About half the respondents to the survey, commissioned by media agency MediaCom, said they would forgo their TV subscription if they were forced to reduce household expenditure while only 10 per cent said they would forgo their broadband internet connection in the same situation, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday.

The study of 400 people, split evenly between pay TV subscribers and non-subscribers in equal numbers in capital cities, seems to question the theory that digital secondary channels are luring viewers away from primary channels. The study found that the viewing habits of about three-quarters of the respondents remained largely unchanged.
