AOL and Google are the most common online news sources, visited by over half of the online news viewers every day.
About 78 per cent Americans watched local news, 73 per cent watched national news and about 61 per cent went online for it. Six in ten Americans get their news from both online and offline sources, the survey has revealed.
Only half of those surveyed said they relied on newspapers alone. Most respondents said they turned to multiple sources for news - about 46 per cent used up to six different sources a day.
